Most of Central Brookhaven goes through the Town.
Nearly every address here is permitted by the Town of Brookhaven. A few communities cross Town lines, so we confirm the right office for your address before we file. Homes in a designated historic district also go through that district's review, which we coordinate with the permit office for approval.
Town of Brookhaven
Most addresses go through the Town of Brookhaven Building Division. Town permits typically take 4–6 weeks.
Village of Lake Grove
Lake Grove is an incorporated village with its own permit process. We file with the village, and the timeline is about the same as the Town's.
Communities that cross Town lines
Ronkonkoma, Lake Ronkonkoma and Holtsville extend into the Towns of Islip and Smithtown, and part of Manorville is in the Town of Riverhead. We check which office covers your address.
Every project, in any town, also needs PSEG Long Island interconnection approval before installation, then a final inspection and Permission to Operate (PTO) from PSEG Long Island before the system turns on. We handle all of the paperwork and coordination with PSEG Long Island. Install day itself is fast: most solar installs take one day, larger systems one to two days, and systems with battery backup two to three days. A roof replacement or a heat pump install each typically takes one day.

Mid-century and newer homes near the Islip line. We confirm whether your address is permitted by Brookhaven or Islip.
Medford
Ranches and capes, some on wooded lots, plus newer developments. Many homes here pair well with solar plus a heat pump.
Yaphank
Wooded, more rural lots alongside newer developments. Larger properties can open the door to bigger systems or ground mounts.
Lake Grove
An incorporated village with its own permit process. Mostly mid-century ranches and capes with good roofs for solar.
Ronkonkoma
Homes around the lake and near the train station. Part of Ronkonkoma is in the Towns of Islip and Smithtown, so we check your permit office first.
Lake Ronkonkoma
Older homes near the lake mixed with newer construction. Like Ronkonkoma, it crosses Town lines.
Manorville
Larger lots in the Pine Barrens, where ground mounts and bigger systems are often possible. Part of Manorville is in the Town of Riverhead.
Living in an HOA or 55+ community?
Coram, Middle Island and Ridge include many condominium, townhouse and 55+ communities. Solar is often still possible. We prepare the drawings, equipment specs and layout your board needs to review.

Partly. Ronkonkoma and Lake Ronkonkoma are split among the Towns of Brookhaven, Islip and Smithtown, so which office issues your permit depends on your exact address. We confirm it before we file.
Should I replace my roof before getting solar?
If your roof has less than about 10 years of life left, it usually makes sense to replace it first. We check your roof's condition during the energy review, and if it needs replacing, we do the roof and solar together, each typically in one day.
